“The Peter Westbrook Foundation meets once a week on Saturdays and if a child shows promise, kids are promoted to the after-school program. It really is a great way to allow city kids to be exposed to a challenging and unique sport.”
“The process for qualifying for the Olympics is very difficult; it requires being ranked within the top three in the hemisphere. In order to achieve a high ranking it requires participation in tournaments that are held all over the world and the season lasts seven months. Though it was difficult being away from home for so many days, it was a lot of fun, hanging out with my friends and experiencing new cultures.”
“The one piece of advice for anyone thinking of training to fence is to work hard and be patient. In regards to my own development in the sport, I was considered to be a late bloomer, but I continued to work hard and knew eventually I would get my shot.”
